The mother of a grown-up daughter recently wondered if she crossed boundaries when she tried to retrieve an object from her guest room while her daughter and her girlfriend were asleep. The daughter found out afterward and angrily demanded an apology for the invasion of privacy.
Her Daughter and Girlfriend Were Staying Over
“My daughter is 23 years old and brought her girlfriend (25 years old) to stay in our house for a few days. It wasn’t the first time I had met her girlfriend, but it was the first time we knew she was serious about this girl,” the older woman said.
The Women Left Something In Their Room
They slept in a room that the woman typically used as her workspace. One morning, she discovered that she had accidentally left her tablet’s stylus pen in their room and urgently needed it for work.
She Could Wait For Them To Wake Up
After waiting for an hour for them to wake up without success, she eventually made the decision to enter their room and retrieve the pen herself.
She Didn’t Want to Disturb Them
The mother explained, “I didn’t knock because I knew they were tired and didn’t want to wake them up. I also didn’t think they’d be in an indecent situation because my daughter would never do that in our home.”
The Daughter Found Out
Later, her daughter discovered what had happened and confronted her, expressing her discomfort with her mother entering their room while they were asleep. The younger woman felt that it was inappropriate and a violation of her and her girlfriend’s privacy.
The Woman Didn’t Feel She Did Anything Wrong
The woman didn’t think it was a big deal since she didn’t see anything inappropriate, only that they were cuddling in their sleep.
Despite her daughter’s discomfort, the woman didn’t think she did anything wrong and didn’t feel the need to apologize.
Her Daughter Didn’t Want to Stay
“My daughter left much earlier than planned and demanded an apology before ever coming to visit again. I don’t think I did something crazy. It was just a second. Am I in the wrong?” the woman asked.
She Tried to Explain to Her Daughter
After considering her actions, the woman tried to apologize to her daughter and explain her reasoning. She told her that she didn’t mean to invade her privacy but really needed the stylus pen to start work.
Unfortunately, her daughter still remained slightly upset with her.
The Mom Is Now Worried About Their Relationship
The mother was confused that her daughter remained distant and was worried that she had caused permanent damage to the trust in their mom/daughter relationship.
