A husband recently refused to take pictures of his wife during their trip to Italy because he was tired of doing it all the time, until the wife stopped talking to him. Here’s what he had to say:
His Wife Loved Taking Pictures
The couple had been married for seven years. The man’s wife had a strong passion for taking multiple photos, while he strongly disliked being constantly assigned as the photographer. This difference in preference and role has resulted in numerous arguments between them, particularly during their vacations.
His Wife Constantly Asked for Photos
“We visit a new place, and she immediately asks me to take her picture…I agree to do it, but then she scolds me if the picture looks “ugly” or if she thinks I didn’t try hard enough to take a good picture.
So then I have to take another photo. She reviews, and the process repeats until she’s satisfied,” he explained.
He Would Prefer To Enjoy the Experience
The man has yet to travel to that many places, so he prefers to immerse himself in the culture and the moment while on vacation. “I like to be in the moment, take in the whole sight, and get lost in my thoughts,” he said.
Taking Photos of His Wife Ruins His Experience
He felt like his enjoyment was being interrupted by his wife’s constant requests for pictures or selfies.
He Was Sick of Taking Pictures
In an effort to accommodate his wife’s demands, the man-made attempts to take better photos and followed her instructions. However, even when he put in the effort, she would still find faults and criticize the outcome. This resulted in multiple photos of the same thing. The process would continue until she was satisfied or he reached his limit and declared that he was finished.
She Policed What He Posted on Social Media
Adding to his frustrations, his wife had gotten upset with him for sharing a photo she didn’t like on social media.
He Doesn’t Understand Why She Needs Perfect Photos
He believes his wife is naturally beautiful and doesn’t require a “good” picture to prove it. He enjoys capturing candid moments, such as her eating ice cream or adjusting her glasses, but sharing these images on social media without her approval often ignites an argument.
Photos Shouldn’t Be the Main Objective of a Vacation
The husband regarded the entire situation as pointless, saying, “Photographs are an afterthought – a tool – not the main objective.”
He’d Rather Enjoy the Moment
He had little interest in taking pictures of anything other than what was needed to remember the moment or capture something aesthetically pleasing. He thought that his wife’s pursuit of photos had become excessive, particularly when it distracted them from the trip’s purpose, which was to experience something new.
He Asked the Internet for Advice
The couple was recently in Italy, sitting in silence in their hotel room after he refused to take the 20-something photo of his wife in front of the Colosseum. He did not want to fall out with his wife over something so trivial, so he asked for advice.
