A man recently discovered that his company had hired a man for the sole purpose of getting employees fired. He wasn’t going to let them get away with it. Here’s what he had to say.
He Was Very Busy at Work
The man was hired as a “helper” at an organization and found that he was given an excessive amount of work.
He went above and beyond what was expected of him, even automating some of his workload to save the Company about 15 working hours a day.
His Efforts Were Not Appreciated
Unfortunately, the man’s hard work and efforts were not being adequately acknowledged, and to his surprise, he discovered one day that the company had secretly arranged for someone to evaluate his position without informing him.
The New Guy Was Different
Describing his coworkers as mostly “technologically illiterate boomers,” the man said that he noticed a strange guy in a team meeting one day taking notes.
He Was Also Very Rude
The man referred to him as “the sergeant.” However, about a week later, the man said the sergeant started treating him poorly, ignoring him and even scoffing at him during group conversations.
Then He Discovered Something
One day, while looking for some important files, the man found a personal folder structure within one of the drives that contained “the sergeant’s notes.”
He discovered that the sergeant was going from location to location, trying to get people fired to save the CEO money.
He Was Making up Fake Claims About the Employees
The man found that the sergeant had written that he had “clearly atrocious attention to detail,” among other negative comments.
He Was Going To Get Back at The Company
Frustrated by the lack of acknowledgement and appraisal, the man reached a breaking point. In response, he took matters into his own hands by setting up three automated emails. One email was addressed to his boss, notifying them of his intention to take a two-week vacation, while another email was sent to the company, informing them of his absence during that period. This action served as a bold declaration of his discontent and a proactive step towards taking some time off.
He Went on Holiday
He also set up an auto-response to any emails that came in, stating that he would be out for an unknown amount of time and directing people to contact the sergeant.
He Started Getting Phone Calls
After turning off every automated task he had ever set up, the man received multiple calls from the office, which he didn’t answer.
By Wednesday, the man was feeling anxious but stayed strong. Eventually, his boss sent him a long email stating:
The Email
“Frosty, I know you’re a smart person and probably figured out what the Company had us doing. I would say it’s very important you call me, but that probably isn’t going to work, I see.
I’ve talked with the sergeant’s boss, and he will be leaving our location. I explained our progress meetings seemed to be going in the wrong direction and that you are one of our most valuable employees here.
I am sure you are probably looking at other jobs at this point, or maybe you have even started one. I hope not. If you could please reach back to me, I would like to offer you a raise. It has become very apparent how useful you are around here. I hear about it every day, believe me.”
The Boss Apologized and Offered the Man a $10,000 Raise
The man returned to work with a higher salary, and the sergeant was gone.
People Responded to the Story
One person said, “Nice! Managers often don’t appreciate the people who “only help” behind the scenes. Support staff is a huge deal.”
Another wrote, “Probably he has no hard evidence of your contribution, but with your leave of absence, everything came into place for him to convince the higher-ups. Credits to him for stepping up in the end and getting you a raise, though not sure if it’s reasonable enough.”
