A man recently told Reddit about the time he had to put up with a know-it-all at work until the co-worker got arrested.
The man worked at a gas station
Years ago, the man reluctantly accepted a job at a convenience store/gas station in the Midwest, initially worried about the risk of robberies. However, he quickly discovered that the store had become a favored meeting place for local law enforcement officers, which eased his concerns.
It was a local hot spot for locals
“The local city cops, the county sheriff, and even detectives all wandered into my store multiple times a day. They would stand around and chat with the staff or just stop in for a snack or drink on the way to work,” he said.
The police made him feel safe at work
The man loved his job, primarily due to the presence of police officers at the store. Their regular presence provided a sense of security, alleviating his worries about potential robberies. This advantage allowed him to feel safe and confident every time he embarked on his work shifts.
However, there was one major annoyance at his work
One of his co-workers, Branson, thought he knew everything. Branson would often tattle on others for minor issues, even going so far as to falsely accuse the man of allowing a friend to steal from the store.
He was caught out for lying
The man said, “Luckily, we were absolutely lousy with cameras. So after a few minutes of desperate pleading for the manager to check the CCTV footage, they discovered that Branson was, in fact, full of it if not lying for his own amusement.”
He was a bit of a know-it-all
Branson acted like he knew everything and as if God had put him on this earth to tell everyone what he knew. “He had an opinion about the cafeteria in the hospital my mother worked in when I was a child,” the man said.
But he soon got what was coming for him
One day, when the man was waiting to finish his shift so Branson could take over, the store was filled with police.
The man and another co-worker were chatting with some of the officers while a sheriff named Bucky talked to Branson.
Bucky was a nice cop
Bucky was a good-natured man who found himself arguing with Bransos about something.
Branson insisted that Bucky was wrong and that, as a law enforcement officer, Bucky didn’t have the education to properly understand the topic.
He decided to check up on Branson
Bucky decided not to argue with Branson anymore and walked away from the conversation.
“Bucky caught my eye and motioned me over. He then asked me what Branson’s last name was, and not seeing any reason not to, I told him,” the man said.
After a few minutes, Bucky came back and asked Bransos what his name was. The man said, “Branson, sounding a little annoyed and as if he were schooling a child, answered him.”
Turns out, Branson wasn’t squeaky clean
Bucky left again, then came back with a grin on his face. He told Branson to come out from behind the counter and asked his name again.
When Branson told him again, Bucky pulled out his handcuffs.
Bucky then said, “I am so happy to hear that because there’s a warrant out for your arrest, and I’m going to have to take you in. I’m going to need you to turn around for me and put your hands behind your back.”
He was arrested!
Bucky handcuffed Branson and escorted him out of the store.
The man and his co-worker were shocked, but that shock was replaced with delight because they wouldn’t have to deal with Branson anymore.
A happy ending for all – except Branson
The man never saw Branson again, but Bucky came back later that day and apologized for making the man stay late at work.
The man said, “I told him I didn’t mind, and it was all worth it for the show. I’d have done it all over again just to see an idiot sabotage himself.”
The internet responded
The man tells the people of Reddit that if they have a warrant out for their arrest, they shouldn’t annoy a cop.
One person asked what the warrant was for, and the man replied, “I’m not sure what he did to start with, but he was picked up on a bench warrant. So, he didn’t show up for a court date.”
Someone else said, “Very acceptable to get a surprise longer shift dumped on you for this.”
