She Uninvited Her Rude Mother-in-Law to Her Wedding but Now Her Husband Is Threatening To Leave Her

A 27-year-old woman recently asked the Reddit community if she was in the wrong for uninviting her soon-to-be mother-in-law to her wedding after she told her she was damaged goods.

Here’s what she had to say.

The woman had previously been married to a man who tragically died when she was 23. They had two children together. The woman doesn’t like to talk about the death of her husband and especially hadn’t talked about it with her boyfriend’s mother as they weren’t very close. They only had conversations when on holidays together, and even then, they kept it brief.

The woman was hosting her fiancé’s family at their first Thanksgiving together.

She was excited about the occasion but realized she had forgotten the mashed potatoes, which irritated her mother-in-law.

Her fiancé’s sister offered to go to the store and buy some instant mashed potatoes. Her sister-in-law asked her to check on her daughter, who was upstairs with the woman’s two kids. She did that and left everyone else downstairs for a while.

Later at dinner, the woman thought everyone seemed very quiet when they all sat down to eat.

As everyone was leaving, she found out why.

Her fiancé’s older sister, who had stayed downstairs with the family while the woman was upstairs and the younger sister at the shops, asked if she could speak to her.

“Is everything ok”? the woman said. The older sister-in-law explained to her that while she was upstairs, her mother-in-law had questioned why her fiancé would get mixed up with someone like her. Because she had children, the mother-in-law felt that the woman was already ‘used up’ and would ruin her son’s reputation.

There were even a couple of comments that her sister-in-law wouldn’t repeat!

The sister-in-law said she wouldn’t have felt right if she hadn’t told her.

The woman was in complete shock. Her mother-in-law had already left, but she called to confront her. She initially went quiet but eventually admitted it. “I’m glad you know how everyone feels now. I was getting tired of hiding it,” she said.

When the woman started to cry, it got worse. The mother-in-law basically said she was damaged goods because of her kids.

The woman then said, “In a moment of anger, I uninvited her from my wedding.”

Her fiancé

thinks she’s overreacted and is threatening to leave if she doesn’t fix things.

The woman doesn’t think she is wrong, so she asks the Reddit community if she shouldn’t have uninvited the mother-in-law-to-be from the wedding.

Commenters, however, were very much on her side.

One user wrote, “your MIL called you names on Thanksgiving, and your fiancé wants you to apologize? You have a fiancé problem. This relationship is already over. Figure out how to protect yourself and get out.”

Another user said, “dear OP, please uninvite the fiancé as well.”

What do you think? Is the fiancé the problem?
