A woman recently paid for a ski trip for herself and three others but found out one of the people she paid for had been bad-mouthing her behind her back. Here’s what she had to say:
They Booked To Go Skiing
The woman, along with her two friends Sally and Tina, had planned an upcoming ski trip. They had already booked their tickets, and the woman was filled with anticipation for their vacation together.
“I’m assuming either Sally or Tina told another acquaintance of ours, Mary, in casual conversation, and Mary immediately messaged me, insisting on coming with us,” she said.
She Wasn’t Sure It Was a Good Idea
The woman had known Sally for three years and Tina since high school but had only met Mary a few times.
She told Reddit, “I felt a little uncomfortable since I wanted this to be a close friend’s trip, and I’m also a pretty shy and nervous person around new people.”
Mary Was Going To Join Them
After some persuasion from Sally, who vouched for Mary and saw it as a chance for bonding, the woman and Tina reluctantly agreed to let Mary join the trip.
A Week Later, the Four Arrived at The Ski Resort
It was an incredible place and everyone except Mary was excited about the snow.
Mary knew they were going on a ski trip, but despite this, she constantly complained about the cold and that she didn’t know how to ski.
She Was Negative the Entire Time
She also criticized the resort, which hurt the woman’s feelings since she paid for the whole trip.
“My friends and I alternate on who pays the main costs like shelter and activities for each trip, but the food is paid for individually,” she said.
The Next Day, They Decided to Do Different Things
Mary decided to take ski lessons the next day, so the group split up.
Mary gave the woman her bag to store in the lockers, and when Mary’s phone wouldn’t stop buzzing, the woman checked it.
She Discovered that Mary Had Been Gossiping About the Woman
The woman found text messages to Mary’s boyfriend, and she had been calling her cheap and saying that the hotel was tacky. She even joked that the trip probably cost the woman her entire life savings.
The Woman Was Offended
“I was super hurt because I didn’t expect her to say all that,” the woman said.
When she next saw Mary, the woman decided to act as if nothing had happened, pretending that she hadn’t seen the messages, but she was still hurt.
She Wouldn’t Speak to Mary After the Incident
The woman said, “I told Tina and Sally that we would be dining out, but I didn’t tell Mary. I told my friends that we were eating at a fancy restaurant, and I didn’t invite Mary because I was mad at her.”
But Her Friends Thought She Was Being Ridiculous
Sally and Tina got angry at the woman for doing this and accused her of overreacting.
Tensions rose, and the rest of the trip was awkward between the four of them, and the woman hasn’t spoken to them since.
“Mary was super mad at me and left me horrible messages,” she said.
Was She Wrong for Causing Tension?
