A hardworking employee recently got revenge on his company after he was berated for not staying to help when he came in to do overtime on his day off. Here’s what the friend of the disgruntled worker had to say:
He Was A Hard Worker
The man started, “My buddy Steve has worked at a small business for over ten years. Most of his time there has been pretty alright, but recently, it has become remarkably worse.”
Steve was the most senior employee outside of management and by far the most productive. He was always training new hires, working extra hours, helping other departments, etc. You name it, Steve helped with it.
Steve Worked Over-time
“Steve’s position is hourly, and he got overtime pay for the extra hours. The stuff he worked on during these extra hours would collectively save his department a lot of time and headaches; that’s why he did it,” the buddy explained.
It Used To Be A Great Place To Work
Stever’s company had previously fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork among its employees, creating a positive and friendly atmosphere throughout the organization.
His coworkers were not only colleagues but also genuine friends and reliable teammates. This environment encouraged everyone to go the extra mile in their work, enhancing overall job satisfaction.
Regrettably, the situation had changed, and the company’s team dynamics were no longer the same.
Steve Worked On His Days Off
Steve often went in for a couple of hours just to take care of backed-up paperwork and the general housekeeping of his department. Management knew about this, and they were happy about it.
It Was A Busy Time
As the holidays approached, the business was at full stretch, with orders backing up and extra hours required from their staff. After a 60-hour week, Steve finally had a couple of days off.
However, being a conscientious type, on his second day off, he decided he would go in and help out his coworkers for a bit.
His Manager Told Him Off
Just as he was finishing up and about to leave, Steve’s manager approached him and said, “Hey Steve, quit messing around; get back out there and do your job.”
Steve replied, “Sorry, it’s my day off; I’m not scheduled to work this shift. I’m just helping out and will be leaving in around 5 minutes.”
Steve Refused To Stay
Steve’s manager didn’t acknowledge this and instead told Steve there was no way he was going home and needed to get back out there. Steve simply refused and left.
The next day, he was hauled into the manager’s office, given a dressing down, and officially written up for insubordination.
Steve Was Unhappy
The man continued, “But there were a few things about Steve that you should know, that his employers knew but either forgot or didn’t care about.”
Firstly, he had started to get fed up with all his extra work being taken for granted. His work was in high demand, and he had a very high-earning wife. Plus, he was about to become a dad.
He Got His Revenge
Steve signed his write-up and handed it back to the manager, along with an envelope with a short letter inside. “My two weeks’ notice,” said Steve to the manager.
Now came the furious back-peddling. The manager frantically apologized. The big boss came in and offered him more money. Steve turned it all down.
Did The Company Deserve It?
Maybe the business will think twice about how they treat employees in the future. Now they had to get through one of their busiest periods without their most reliable worker.
On the other hand, Steve is enjoying a break and preparing for the baby’s arrival before he starts a new job. His buddy decided to share Steve’s revenge story online as an inspiration to others who are mistreated or unappreciated.
The Online Community Responded
One user wrote, “I never understood companies that hand out write-ups like candy. The minute I get written up is the minute I start looking for another job.”
Another user said, “This makes me so happy. Good for Steve!”
