An ex-naval serviceman recently shared his story of revenge on an entitled officer who wrote a letter complaining that he was far too important to be living among ‘criminals.’ Here’s what he had to say:
The Man Worked In Japan
Around a year and a half ago, the man worked as a Navy enlisted service member stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. While there, he worked in a small hospital that cared for service members and their families.
The man added, “Shortly after I left, I caught wind of a new physician officer working in the radiology department. My friends said he was horrible to work with, but that’s nothing new.”
The Letter
One day, the man was shown a photograph of a letter written by the officer, expressing a desire to relocate from enlisted housing to officer housing. In the letter, derogatory comments about enlisted service members were made by the officer.
The Officer Was Entitled
The unpleasant officer had written, “Being an officer, I have many valid objections to living in a building with almost all enlisted (and even many lower enlisted),” and went on to claim that there was a lot of crime, violence, drug use, and alcoholism in enlisted housing.
He Thought His Family Was Superior
The officer also wrote, “Other officer families will not want to visit us because our family lives in enlisted housing. My children and wife need to make friends with other officers’ children and wives, and I need to make friends with other officers.”
He Accused Lower Ranks Of Crime
He also said that his family would be prime targets for unpleasant acts by lower-ranking personnel, stating, “My family should be safe in housing that is with officers. Officers are much more respectable, and these behaviors are incredibly rare compared to the deviant activities of enlisted being commonplace.”
The Letter Went Viral on Social Media
The man was upset by the officer’s disrespectful remarks, given that the officer had served in the Army as an enlisted member before. Taking action, the man created a fake Facebook account and shared the letter, along with the officer’s picture, on a popular military group page. The post gained widespread attention within two days.
It Didn’t Stop There
He designed a challenge coin featuring the officer’s face and a middle finger on the back, as well as stickers proudly displaying the word “deviant.” He sold the coins and stickers to fellow enlisted members, who displayed them on their desks at work.
The officer’s face was now everywhere, and he couldn’t escape the consequences of his words.
It Went Viral
The man continued, “The story was featured in the online Naval newspaper and on two popular YouTube channels. And if you’re military, you know the only time big military care is needed is when it’s too big to sweep under the rug.”
He Was Charged
The officer was eventually brought before the Captain’s Mast, the Navy’s version of a court, where he tried to claim that his wife had written the letter. This defence didn’t hold up, and he was served with three UCMJ articles for his offences.
His Career Was Over
As a result of these charges, the officer was unable to be promoted and was ejected from the military. Since the military had paid for his Ph.D., he was now obligated to pay them back for his education, as he hadn’t fulfilled the required ten years of service.
Ultimately, the officer lost his job, had to pay back the military for his Ph.D., and suffered socially due to his actions.
Did The Man Go Too Far?
The man who got revenge shared his story on the Reddit forum. He wanted to know what other internet users thought about his far-from-petty revenge that ended a prejudiced officer’s entire military career. The man himself remained proud and unapologetic, believing that the officer got what he deserved.
People Responded
One person said, “You can run into narcissists in the military, and it’s worse since they have legal authority over you. It’s always a warm feeling when these guys get what they deserve.”
Another user posted, “I’m a former officer. If he was that bothered by living amongst the ‘sweaties’ (sarcasm here, folks), then he should have used some of that much higher pay to rent or buy a place off base.”
