Her Boyfriend Got Diagnosed With Anemia and Expected Her To Stay Home To Comfort Him but She Thinks He’s Being a Manchild and Should Get Over Himself

A young woman recently asked the internet if she was wrong for not canceling an event after learning that her boyfriend was diagnosed with anemia.

The woman, 25, works in event planning, so she always gets invites and tickets for very cool events. As it just so happened, there was a huge event coming up that she was very excited to go to. She asked her boyfriend three days before the event to accompany him, and he said yes. So the plan was for her, her boyfriend, and her step-sister to all go together.

On the day of the event, the boyfriend told her he had a doctor’s appointment, so he wasn’t sure if he could still attend. The woman said, ‘no problem,’ and just waited for him to come home.

“A couple of hours later, he texted me and said he had something to tell me. I got worried and called him immediately. I asked if everything was okay, and he said he was diagnosed with anemia, so he’ll have to take supplements,” the woman explained.

The woman told him how sorry she was and spoke to him for about two hours. She gave him a pep talk and told him she was there if he needed her.

She reassured him that she loved him and then asked if he still wanted to go to the event to take his mind off things.

He said that he didn’t actually like the artists who would be performing, so he would rather go to another event.

“I said, ‘no problem,’ I will go with my stepsister alone. He got upset and hung up,” the woman said.

She tried to call him back, but the boyfriend started an argument about how she was being selfish for going out while he was going through something.

She explained that she had already made plans with her step-sister and depended on her. The woman didn’t drink, so she was the designated driver.

“I told him that this event is the only event my sister really wanted to attend, and I promised her that I would take her months prior. I even told him I’ll see him the next day, and he said to be safe and hung up,”

The woman got to the event around 11 pm and returned home around 2 am. She called her boyfriend, who was playing video games.

He was being petty and saying words like, “look, who cares about me again,” but the woman was just too tired for it.

But her boyfriend wouldn’t let it go and got mad at her for going out even though she knew he was upset. He then told her that her priorities were way off.

So the woman asked the Reddit community if she was wrong for not staying in with her boyfriend after his diagnosis.

Luckily for her, the commentators on Reddit thought her boyfriend was being ridiculous.

One user said, “anemia is generally a completely treatable condition that has no impact on quality of life, and unless the doctor referenced a concern about a more serious condition, it’s reasonable to assume that supplements are all that is needed at this point.”

Another said, “I literally laughed when I got to “anemia.” I’m sure OP’s boyfriend must not know how incredibly mundane such a thing is, and anemia sucks. I’m trying to give him the benefit of the doubt for his overreaction, but either way, this is not something you cancel your afternoon snack over, let alone an event you’ve been looking forward to.”
