“They disrespected my wife”: A Man’s Disabled Wife Was Cast Aside at His Brother’s Wedding so He Refused to Be Best Man

A man recently found out that his brother and sister-in-law didn’t want his wife to stay at the main venue of their wedding, so he decided to step down as best man.

Here’s the full story.

The 36-year-old planned to be by his younger brother’s side on his big day. After all, he had a very important job to do. He was the best man.

The man already knew a thing or two about weddings, being happily married himself. Unfortunately, his wife had sustained some injuries that affected her health and resulted in her having difficulties communicating with people.

She also needs assistance sometimes with feeding, which the man is happy to do.

The unfortunate situation has not stopped him from appreciating his wife as she is still a smart and capable woman, and so he provides all the support she needs.

As the best man of the wedding, he was present at the rehearsal dinner. It was all going well, with everyone in high spirits and lots of laughter, until his sister-in-law, the bride, pulled him aside to have a word.

“She asked if I was aware of the additional venue and if my wife had any particular food preferences so she could ensure the food going to be there,” he said.

The man didn’t quite understand at first and was quite shocked that she suggested his wife go to a different venue. The venue was, in fact, another place entirely for kids.

The couple had decided that only persons above the age of 12 should be seated in the main reception room, and considering that many of their guests had young children, they provided a second venue for those who needed a place to drop their kids. They also planned to have a babysitter on ground to look after the children.

The man was extremely confused and upset. “I remember just staring at her for a bit and asking if she actually expected my wife to be with a babysitter!”

In her defense, she said, “it’s not like that. We are just looking out for your wife and you as well. So you don’t have to feed her, and you can have fun at the wedding.”

The man figured this was his sister-in-law’s idea and that the issue would be resolved once his brother got involved. Little did he know that his brother was fully in support. When he approached his brother, he didn’t get the response he expected. His brother told him that the decision was made in good faith and he could always go and check on his wife during the course of the evening.

The man was unhappy with the so-called plan and felt his wife was not being treated fairly. He, therefore, decided to stick up for his wife and told his brother that he would not attend the wedding.

Many people didn’t accept his decision, although some believed he did the right thing. His parents didn’t support his brother and sister-in-law’s plan for his wife, but they felt that he should have respected their choice and still attended the wedding.

The man’s brother sent him a text saying that he expected him to do better, and the bride also reached out, suggesting that he intentionally ruined her big day and made them look bad.

Several users on Reddit reacted to the story.

One person said, “I have a similar issue with your wife, and I would absolutely disown any relative that tried to treat me like they did to your wife. If my spouse didn’t stand up for me, I would disown him too.”

Another user said, “surprising how people can complain about looking bad when it is a consequence of their actions.”

What do you think? Did the man make the right decision?
