She Thinks Her Stepdaughter Is Too Close to the Nanny so She Wants Her Fired

A woman recently asked the Reddit community if she was wrong to demand her boyfriend’s 11-year-old daughter’s live-in nanny move out.

Here’s what happened.

The woman’s boyfriend has a daughter called Hailey. Her mother left when Hailey was just a year old.

The mother had been having mental health issues before she left, so the boyfriend hired a nanny named Laura to look after the girl from when she was only six months. When the mother left, Laura moved in to look after Hailey full-time.

The woman says that Laura is very close with her boyfriend’s family and thinks they like Laura better than they like her. Her boyfriend tells her that Laura has become a friend over the years. They even go out together once a month or so.

Laura is extremely involved in Hailey’s life. She’s a room mom at her school. She’s at every play, concert, and soccer game. Hailey doesn’t do anything for herself. Laura wakes her up, packs her backpack and lunch and does her hair every morning, and does homework with her every afternoon. She tucks Hailey in every night and sits with her until she falls asleep.

The woman feels that Hailey is so attached to Laura that she doesn’t seem interested in getting closer to her or even her father. “I honestly think that’s because of Laura,” the woman said. She then spoke to her boyfriend about the situation.

She said to him, “Hailey’s too attached to Laura, and you should be more involved in Hailey’s life, and we can have Laura move out.”

Unfortunately, Hailey overheard her saying this. She was heartbroken and terrified. She refused to speak to the woman or to leave Laura’s side. She even faked being sick, so she didn’t have to go to school. Laura says that Hailey hasn’t been sleeping and is worried about her.

The woman’s boyfriend is now blaming her for the situation, but she didn’t know that Hailey would be eavesdropping or that she’d get this scared.

Now the woman says that Hailey’s mental state has only gotten worse, and Laura hopes that getting Hailey away from triggers like the woman and an intensive therapy program will prevent her from being hospitalized. Hailey also left the woman a card saying that she hates her and wants her to leave.

The woman asked the Reddit community if she was wrong to have suggested that Laura move out, and unfortunately for her, the commenters seemed to think so.

One user wrote, “my god, the nanny tucks her in at night and packs her lunch! The horror. What a virtuous woman OP is for worrying about this kind of influence in her boyfriend’s daughter’s life.”

Another said, “well, let’s see, she’s got no bio mom, dad is uninvolved, and you’re letting your jealousy and insecurities destroy the only parental relationship she’s ever known.

Oh, and she’s not your stepdaughter. She’s your boyfriend’s daughter.”

Do you think the woman was in the wrong?
