He Forgot His Son’s Toy at Their House and Wouldn’t Leave Until They Gave It Back

A man recently told a story on Reddit about how their son’s sleepover turned into quite an embarrassing affair. He is asking if he was in the wrong or if his friends are overly sensitive.

Here’s what he had to say.

The man and his wife had gone to visit her father after he had undergone major surgery. They were going to be traveling for the entire day and so they wouldn’t be back until after midnight. As this was way past their son’s bedtime, a couple of friends stepped in and suggested that the son sleeps at their house.

The man and his wife were really grateful, and the night went as planned, and the man picked up his son the following day.

However, as it got to nap time, the son suddenly couldn’t find his toy. Sleepy Dumbo, he called it. This was his favorite toy, and he absolutely had to have it while sleeping.

The dad looked everywhere for it, but it was nowhere to be found. His son began throwing a tantrum, and the dad, worn out, didn’t know what to do.

And that’s when he realized. The toy must have been left behind at their friends’ house!

So, the dad texted the friends, but there was no response.

Trying to calm down his son, he gets him in the car, and they drive over to the friends’ house. The man tries calling again on the way but still, no answer.

As they arrive at the house, the son starts crying. No one is seemingly in, but the man knocks anyway.

After a few minutes of continuous knocking, the woman appears at the door. She’s incredibly busy working and doesn’t have much time. The man persists, explaining the situation. The woman starts to get angry and again says she does not have time to look for a toy.

But the man won’t leave. His son starts crying again, and he demands to be let in.

Finally, the woman gives in.

The dad quickly finds the toy. He grabs it, thanks the friend, and leaves.

All should be well, as the toy was now safely back in the hands of the son.

But then, later that afternoon, the man receives a scathing text message from the couple.

The text message said that they didn’t appreciate the way that the man and his son had ‘barged’ into their home and that just because they had agreed to do them a favor, it didn’t give them the right to walk all over them. The message went on to say that the couple should realize that the world didn’t revolve around them, and in the future if they didn’t answer a call, it meant that it wasn’t a good time to come over.

The man says that he was embarrassed but that his wife got really angry and started name-calling their friends. He’s wondering if he should respond to the text or if he was actually in the wrong, to begin with.

The Reddit community had a few things to say.

One user noted, “Gentle and kindly, YTA. She told you to come back later, and you didn’t accept that answer. That’s not cool, and it’s not her problem that you forgot it in the first place.”

Another said, “There are a lot of reasons why knocking on the door could have been extremely disruptive. There are jobs where what seems like a short interruption turns out to be a much longer one because it takes a while to get back into what you were doing. Or she could have been on an important phone call or Zoom, and you made her look unfocused or unprofessional.”

Do you think the friends were just really rude? Or should the man have left when his friend said it wasn’t a good time?
