She Didn’t Want Her Christian Friend to Come to a Party so She Lied to Her But Got Found Out

A young woman recently asked the Reddit community if she was in the wrong for lying to her Christian friend.

Here’s what she had to say.

This young woman, who is 21, has a group of friends she hangs out with at school. One of her friends, called Jen, is a moderately conservative Christian girl who grew up relatively sheltered.

“If her parents could have afforded Christian school, they would probably have sent her there,” the young woman said.

Jen doesn’t drink at all and doesn’t go to parties, and she hardly ever swears. “If she does, it is still PG-13,” the young woman said.

Jen even has a promise ring that says “one life, one love,” and she posts a lot of religious stuff on social media.

Although Jen is very different from the other girls at school, she still hangs out with them.

So the young woman thinks that Jen is nice enough, but she also feels that Jen sometimes embarrasses her. For example, if they go to a bar, she just sits there. And when someone offers to buy her a drink, she refuses.

“So people start looking at me like “why is she even here…?” the young woman said.

The woman thinks that it is quite obvious that Jen isn’t comfortable in the bar, but she stays because she wants to hang out with her friends.

The young woman feels that some of her other friends are questioning why she’s even friends with Jen because they don’t have anything in common.

So things turned bad when one of the woman’s friends was having a birthday.

They all wanted to go to a bar because he was turning 21, and the entire friend group was invited, Jen included.

But the young woman didn’t feel like having Jen there to sit and drink ice tea while everyone else was having a good time.

She says that Jen likes to talk, and she does laugh, but the woman still finds it embarrassing.

So the young woman decided to tell Jen that the birthday party was canceled and that the group would meet later. She didn’t say to the group that she had texted Jen because Jen replied, “cool, I wasn’t up to going anyway,” so the woman figured it was fine as Jen didn’t even want to go.

Now the young woman knew that Jen would probably go on social media, so she avoided getting into any other pictures, and she asked her friends not to post any pictures with her in them.

But one of her friends forgot, and the next day Jen angrily texted her friend, asking why she lied to her. She sent a screenshot of a photo of the woman at the bar.

The young woman replied to Jen, asking why she cared so much when she didn’t even want to go.

“You shouldn’t have lied to me anyway,” Jen replied.

The woman tried to explain the situation to Jen, but she ignored her. Even more, her other friends told her she was wrong for lying to them and Jen, and they said she should apologize.

The woman explained that she figured it was all fine since Jen didn’t want to go and was usually uncomfortable in these situations.

So the woman asked Reddit if she was in the wrong for lying to her friend about going to the party.

The Reddit Community Responds

Commentators on Reddit agreed that the young woman should have handled the situation a lot better than she did.

One user said, “your whole post screams of “you can’t have fun unless you drink!”

Another user said, “You either need to be Jen’s friend or not. It seems as if she’s done you no offense or harm. You just don’t like that she’s Christian. Then at least be upfront instead of being a two-faced snake about it.”

What do you think about what the young woman did?
