Her Mother Wanted To Wear White to a Wedding so She Left Her at the Dress Shop and the Mother Is Furious

A 15-year-old recently asked the Reddit community whether she was wrong for leaving her mum stranded alone in a clothes shop after having agreed to go shopping together.

Here’s what she had to say.

A few weeks ago, the mom asked her daughter if she would go dress shopping with her. As a loving and dutiful daughter, she agreed, and a few days later, they went to the city to find some suitable dresses.

The mom hadn’t said why she needed a new dress, so the daughter asked as they were on their way. Her mom replied that it was “for a wedding of a close coworker.”

The daughter was a bit shocked as the mom told her that she was looking for a white dress or a white blouse with some form of detailing. She told her mom that “you shouldn’t wear white to the wedding because it might upset the bride,” however, her mother said that “no one really liked the bride anyway.”

The daughter found her mom’s attitude needed adjusting, and she was no longer happy about taking her dress shopping. She told her mom that she would only help her if she chose a different color dress because “what she was doing was disrespectful.”

The mother accused her daughter of being over-dramatic and said that she shouldn’t talk to her like that because she was her mother and raised her better than that.

The daughter then got angry at her mother’s behavior and walked out. She called her friend who lived close to the city and asked her for a lift home, leaving her mother alone in the shop.

“On the way home, I got angry texts from my mother,” she said. Her mom called her “ungrateful and a spoiled teen .”Her dad also phoned, demanding that she go back to the shop, apologize for her behavior, and help her mom find a suitable dress.

“I felt terrible for just leaving my mother there, and I still do and wish I could have continued dress shopping with her, but it didn’t feel right helping her find an outfit,” the young woman said.

She asked the Reddit community for their thoughts and asked if she was in the wrong for leaving her mom at the store.

One user said, “NTA. Sounds like she was trying to make you complicit in her screwing with someone’s wedding. Nope, nope, nope.”

Another wrote, “This is some odd behavior. You, as a 15-year-old, shouldn’t be the one telling her not to wear white to a wedding… and for her to say that no one really likes the bride anyway makes me think she has some sort of ulterior motives.”

What do you think? Was the teenager right to stand up to her mom?
