Her Cousin tried To Upstage Her Engagement Party, But The Bride Outsmarted Her

A woman recently told a story on Reddit about how she prevented her half-sister ‘’Heather’’ from stealing the show at her engagement party.

The woman’s relationship with her half-sister was odd, to say the least, and they had always had issues. In her words: ‘’Heather and I never really got along. She has always tried to one-up me even though we have a similar economic background’’.

They were both 24 years old, born 20 days apart in the same month. Heather’s mum also didn’t like her and her mother.

So the woman and her fiancé planned the engagement party, and the original dress code was casual-formal. However, the woman was shocked to see the dress that Heather had chosen to wear.

A long white strapless dress with sewn-in crystals and golden accents!

‘’I’m pretty sure it was a wedding dress, but I can’t be 100 percent,’’ the woman says.

This was quite different from the dress code she had in mind: ‘’people dressed in nice dresses like they are going to a good restaurant, not dressed like it’s the met gala ball!’’

The thought of Heather showing up to her engagement party in such an opulent dress made her furious, so she decided to change the plan.

She texted her guests, informing them that the party was now a costume party.

She deliberately told her dad to inform Heather and her mum of the dress code change. She knew her dad would either forget to tell them or mention it too late. By this time, Heather would be unable to grab a costume for the party.

The party went as planned, and most guests showed up in costumes. Fun hats and wigs were provided for those who didn’t have time to get a costume. Heather arrived an hour late with her mum and their father.

As she hoped, Heather wore the wedding-like dress, and she had no idea that it was now a costume party.

When she realized that guests were wearing elaborate costumes or weird accessories and she didn’t stand out, she lost it!

To make matters worse for her, when the groom saw her he said: ‘’your bride dress looks amazing for a cheap costume”.

Heather ended up leaving the party in tears.

Heather’s mum and their father thought the lady’s action was childish, and she should have told Heather about the change in the plan instead of asking her father to do it. The lady was unapologetic and pleased with how it played out.

She knew that Heather planned to outshine her at her own engagement party, so she didn’t feel bad at all.

Some users thought she shouldn’t have invited Heather and her mum to the party. Her response was: ‘’It’s one of those weird family situations where not inviting them would have been more dramatic’’.

What do you think? Did the woman handle this situation well? What would you have done?
