A woman recently shared how her cheapskate sister-in-law constantly tricked her into paying the bill whenever they went out to eat. She finally had enough and came up with a genius plan to stop the behavior.
Here’s what happened.
This 28-year-old woman has a sister-in-law, Amy, who lives in another city but visits regularly. Amy is 26 years old, and whenever she visits, she prefers to stay in the woman’s house rather than a hotel.
Amy also likes to go to expensive restaurants. Funnily enough, she always ‘forgets’ to bring her wallet along or gives excuses for why she can’t pay her share of the bill.
The woman was used to the behavior, so she had never said anything.
“She has implied that since I make more money than her, I should be the one to pay the bills. Not my husband, me in particular,” she said.
The woman did make a fair amount of money but not enough to pay for someone’s meal every time they visited. Nonetheless, the woman had been paying the bills, hoping that Amy would refund her money, but this never happened.
So, one night she decided it was time to finally put a stop to it.
Amy made a reservation at an extremely expensive restaurant, and the woman told her that she wouldn’t foot her bill. This “warning” obviously fell on deaf ears.
Amy thought it would be business as usual, but she had no idea what the woman had planned.
Just as they were leaving for the restaurant, the woman pretended that she had forgotten something in the house and told her husband and Amy that she needed to get it. Her intention was to search for Amy’s wallet and take it with her.
“I’ll admit I got this move straight from an episode of Two and a Half Men,” she said.
She found Amy’s wallet sitting pretty in her suitcase. She picked it up, put it in her purse, and went to join her husband and Amy in the car.
When they finished their delicious meal at the restaurant, the woman asked for separate bills. As expected, Amy said, “no, we need one bill because I forgot my wallet.”
She reached for Amy’s wallet in her purse and said to her, “this wallet?”
Amy was gobsmacked and extremely furious!
She said that the woman shouldn’t have touched or grabbed her wallet.
The woman didn’t care. At last, Amy finally paid her own bill!
She was happy with her little ‘petty revenge’ but wonders if she went too far. So she reached out to the Reddit community for their opinions.
One user said, “way to go, but you should have flipped the switch-left your wallet at home and only taken some identification. This way, Amy would have paid the whole bill.”
