This woman’s mother took petty revenge on French post office workers after they refused to sell her some stamps because she was an American. Here’s what she had to say.
They Went to France
“A few years after my parents got married, but before they had kids, they took a vacation to Paris,” the woman said. My mother collected stamps and wanted some French ones to add to her collection.”
She Queued At The Post Office
So while her new husband, who was fluent in French, took a nap in the hotel room, she ventured out to a local post office with the intention of spending around $300-$400. She located the post office and patiently waited in line for quite some time. However, when it was finally her turn at the counter, an unexpected turn of events occurred:
The Worker Didn’t Speak English
“The woman behind the counter told her in perfect English that she didn’t speak English, so my mom waited for another post employee to become free,” wrote the woman.
The Other Worker Was Rude
“The second employee finally became available but was very rude to my mother, telling her that she couldn’t help her, couldn’t sell her this, out of stock of that, etc., while rolling her eyes and being otherwise nasty and rude.”
The Woman Got Very Upset
This terrible treatment almost brought the woman’s mother to tears. And she suspected they were being mean to her because she was American. The woman was really upset. But then she got angry.
She Came up With a Plan
She decided she wasn’t going to take this; instead, she would give those rude post office workers a taste of their own medicine. The woman marched back to the hotel, woke up her French-speaking husband, and explained what had happened.
They Went Back to The Post Office
Now he was furious. How dare anyone treat his new wife like that! The pair returned to the post office and waited for the same worker to become available.
She Wanted to See All the Stamps
Then, using her husband as a translator, she told them she wanted to buy a copy of every stamp and stamp block they had. But first, she wanted to inspect them all.
It Took a Long Time
It took the post office workers nearly an hour to collect and display all the stamps. The deal was almost done. The setup was complete. Now here comes the revenge.
She Got Back at The Postal Worker
“After the nasty woman had a nice stack of plate blocks for my mother, one of every stamp design they had, my mother turned to my father and said, “Tell her I’ve changed my mind,” shared the woman.
The Worker Was Shamed
The tables had turned. Now it was the post office worker who felt insulted and embarrassed. The woman and her husband then walked out of the post office to enjoy the rest of their vacation. Perfect.
