A constantly overlooked sibling recently shouted at her depressed sister that she was worthless and incapable after their mother suggested she should pay for the dependant sister’s first apartment. Here’s what the 18-year-old had to say.
She Wasn’t The Favorite
The younger sister had long felt sidelined by her parents’ overt favoritism toward her older sibling, who had been diagnosed with depression, among other mental disorders, at the young age of 16. Their parents came to the conclusion that the older sister had an unfairly hard life.
The woman complained, “My parents always gave all their attention to her. Driving her around, buying her everything, letting her go out, and blaming me for everything she breaks.”
Life Wasn’t Fair
While the older sister enjoyed their parents’ unwavering support and a total exemption from household chores, the woman was overloaded with responsibilities around the house.
A typical instance involved broken shutters, which her sister had damaged apparently out of sheer spite, despite being begged not to meddle with them. Yet, the woman was made the scapegoat, adding to her feelings of resentment.
She Had Many Duties
Alongside attending school from 7:45 am to 5:15 pm on most days, the young woman also had a hefty load of homework and study.
Additionally, she had to squeeze in chores during her breaks, such as feeding their numerous pets, including chickens, rabbits, a dog, fish, birds, hamsters, and mice.
She Was Tired
“I also had a lot of presentations or had to study for exams. I couldn’t keep up with the chores, and yet my parents still insisted on me doing them,” the younger sister said.
She was exhausted every morning because she had to stay up late to finish the chores around the house, receiving no help whatsoever.
It Was Unbalanced
Meanwhile, the older sister had dropped out of school and remained idle at home, prompting the young woman to loathe her family setup.
Determined to escape the unfairness, the young woman planned to move out at the earliest opportunity and decided to earn money for her own apartment by taking up a job at a local bio-shop twice a week.
The Reaction Was Infuriating
Happy and proud, the woman announced the plan during a family dinner, expecting her family to wonder about her whereabouts.
Upon hearing the news, her mother’s eyes lit up, and she happily announced that they could now use the extra money to buy the older sister’s first apartment.
She Was Angry
Filled with anger, the younger sister adamantly declared that the money she earned was intended for her own apartment. However, her mother held a differing perspective, arguing that since her sister was unable to work, she should contribute to the household.
The younger sister strongly disagreed with her mother’s stance. She believed that her sister was fully capable of working but had chosen not to due to their parents’ overprotective behavior, which she found to be enabling and hindering her sister’s independence.
She Snapped
The exasperated sibling argued that her sister, who never did anything in the household, could not live alone because she lacked the necessary skills.
Unable to control her growing frustration, she shouted at her sister, “I will never support you. You are useless, and you don’t even know anything. You can’t cook and don’t work. You are just expensive and a waste of money. I am worth way more than you.”
She Made Her Cry
This prompted the useless sister to burst into tears and run to her room, crying. The woman’s parents were furious with her, fuming that she had upset their favorite daughter.
Though she knew her words were harsh, she felt a sense of relief for having expressed her true feelings, although only a tiny fraction of what she had wanted to say for many years.
Was She Mean?
With her parents livid and her sister upset, the younger sister’s home environment is worse than ever. She began wondering if she was unnecessarily cruel to call her sister worthless as she did.
Questioning her harsh words, however truthful, she shared her tale online in the hope of getting the opinion of internet users on whether she acted unreasonably.
