A woman told the story of how she recently went to the doctor and was given penicillin. She told her boyfriend, who kicked her out and refused to answer her calls. Here’s what she had to say.
She was ill
In recent weeks, the woman had been struggling with a lingering sickness. One morning, she experienced a coughing fit that woke up her boyfriend, Jake, so she decided to visit the doctor.
She was given medicine
The doctor told her she had inflammation in her throat and prescribed her penicillin. “I had no problem with taking this, but I did know that Jake is allergic to penicillin,” she said.
She told Jake
Upon receiving the medication, she quickly contacted Jake, explaining that she’d store the medicine somewhere safe and that he should stay away from it. Jake, however, was firmly against having it in the apartment due to his severe allergy.
He didn’t want her to take it
He suggested that she should take painkillers instead or recover naturally. In response, the woman proposed staying at her parents’ house while she took the medication. Jake simply said, “We’ll discuss this when I get home,” and told her to either get rid of the penicillin, or keep it in her car.
She didn’t want to wait that long
She couldn’t wait seven hours for Jake to return home to take the medication, so she decided to go to her parents’ house, where she presumed she would end up after their discussion anyway.
She fell asleep
After arriving at her parents’ home, she spent the day resting and eventually fell asleep. “I woke up at around 5 am to loads of calls and texts from Jake and some mutual friends asking where I was,” she said.
Jake was furious
When she returned Jake’s calls, he got angry. He accused her of being disrespectful by leaving without talking to him. He then said she had made things worse by ignoring his calls.
She defended herself
She reminded him that she was ill and had simply fallen asleep. She also reminded him that she had suggested going to her parent’s house earlier.
He didn’t remember her saying that
“He said that he was calling friends all last night asking if they knew where I was and that it was suspicious that I had been distant with him for the past few weeks, then disappeared last night,” she said.
She snapped at him
She told him, “It’s not my fault that you didn’t remember me telling you this.” And she insisted that her being distant with him was due to her being unwell. She then tried to explain that having penicillin in the apartment wouldn’t pose a risk if Jake simply stayed away from it.
He lost his temper
Jake accused her of belittling his allergies and not taking them seriously. “He then told me to just stay at my parents until he’s ready to talk again. Then he hung up, and hasn’t answered any of my calls since,” she said.
She asked the internet for advice
She began to doubt herself, questioning if her stubbornness had made the situation worse, so she turned to the internet to find out if she was the one at fault here.

One person said, “Your boyfriend is controlling. I’ve never heard of a penicillin allergy so severe that being around someone else on the meds would affect them.”
Someone else said, “There is no need to be afraid of someone else’s medication like this. He just shouldn’t touch it or take it.”
