A young teen shared that her mother planned to have a baby with her new boyfriend. The teen knew this was a terrible idea and tried to convince her to think sensibly about this. Here’s what she had to say.
Her mother got pregnant
A thirteen-year-old girl found herself in a predicament when her mother revealed plans to have a baby with her new boyfriend of two months.
She confronted her mother
She told her mother that she was acting recklessly as she wasn’t financially or mentally prepared for another child. “I told her she’s still in the honeymoon phase, and she tells me she’s known him for a year, but I tell her dating someone and being friends with someone is completely different,” the teen said.
Her grandmother agreed with her
Her grandmother, who generally looked forward to the births of new grandchildren, agreed that this was a bad idea. Their whole family attempted to persuade her mother to consider getting an abortion.
They lived in a tiny apartment
The teen lived in a one-bedroom apartment with her mother. To save money for the baby, the teen’s mother suggested selling her dogs and proposed they both move in with her uncle for financial support.
The teen cut her down
“I told her that if she has to give up on MY dogs and move in with my uncle, then that should tell her enough that she shouldn’t be having a baby,” she said.
She didn’t like her mother’s boyfriend
Her mother’s boyfriend was immature and didn’t help around the house at all. She also had issues with her mother. “She has barely been around for me emotionally and physically. Her own ex-boyfriend told me he felt bad for me because of how much she had neglected me,” she explained.
She threatened to move out
She found herself at a loss for what to do. Frustrated, she threatened to move in with her father if her mother went ahead with the pregnancy. Her mother was dismissive and said, “Good, good, you should go so I don’t have to deal with you not supporting my decision.”
She hated her mother’s indifference
The thirteen-year-old was scared that the responsibility of the new baby would fall onto her. She also admitted to feeling a certain degree of jealousy, given her mother’s lack of support throughout her life.
This took a toll on her mental health
“I’ve already been having a lot of mental issues, mainly all because of her, and this is just making it all worse,” the teen explained.
She asked the internet for advice
Desperate for help, she turned to the internet, saying, “I know I’m young, and I might be overreacting, but I genuinely cannot do this. She’s already a pain to live with, but this is honestly just the cherry on top.
The internet responded
One person said, “Go live with Dad now. Don’t wait for the baby to be born.”
Another person said, “You are not responsible for your mother’s decisions. You are also not responsible for her well-being. You’re 13! You should be in an environment where YOU are being cared for BY YOUR PARENT, not the other way around.”
