A maintenance guy at a senior care home recently figured out a way for the residents to get free TV after they received terrible customer service from a satellite company.
He takes care of a senior home
The maintenance guy works at a family-run senior living center and takes the responsibility of caring for people during the later stages of their life very seriously. The company’s core values are to ensure resident safety, happiness, and prolongment of life.
They’re well-taken care of
The care home provides three quality-nutritious meals a day, housekeeping services, activities, a bus for transportation, and several other amenities to increase the quality of life for senior residents. They deserve no less.
They have to pay for TV
The only thing that the residents didn’t get was a free TV license. This was something they had to pay themselves. Of course, being in the later stages of their lives, the residents loved relaxing in front of the TV and watching their favorite shows.
The service is terrible
But more often than not, the signal wouldn’t work, and the residents were frustrated.
He was always trying to fix it
So the maintenance guy was constantly getting called out to repair people’s TVs. And more often than not, it turned out to be a software issue. In other words, there was nothing he could do. The resident or someone on their behalf would have to call the satellite company.
Nothing worked for long
Usually, a tech guy from the company would come out and get the service up and running in a few hours. But the same issue kept happening again and again and again.
He called the company
The maintenance guy takes his job and the residents’ happiness very seriously. So he called the company and asked to speak to a supervisor. He explained the situation, but the supervisor said that each individual resident had to call and report the issue before the company could investigate.
He was getting annoyed
The maintenance guy was angry and frustrated. The supervisor didn’t appreciate the fact that these were senior people, many of whom have hearing and speech difficulties. Others get confused with the security question, meaning they can’t even access their account when they call.
He called again
A few days later, the maintenance guy called back on behalf of one resident, Miss T. He explained that her TV service had been offline for 60 days. The representatives offered Miss T a $21 refund, less than half of the monthly bill.
Things were getting heated
“It’s not good enough,” said the maintenance guy. But the company refused to do anything else. “OK,” said the maintenance guy. “I’m going to throw all your satellite dishes in the dumpster.” And he wasn’t joking!
He was given free rein
The owner of the care home gave him full permission to do whatever was needed. He then took down all the dishes and pulled up all the cabling. Then he contacted a landline provider who installed boxes and ran a connection directly to each apartment.
The residents get free TV
The care home company covered the one-off fee, and now every single resident at the care home has free TV. And the rude and unhelpful satellite company isn’t getting a single dime out of the residents anymore.
He feels great about what he did
“This was revenge for the representative talking to Miss T in such a negative and rude tone,” said the maintenance man. “I couldn’t be happier for my residents. Our senior citizens are some of the most precious things in life. They hold all of our wisdom.”
