A man shared the story of how he knew that his son wasn’t his biological child, but he raised him like his own. Now the truth has come out, and everybody is calling him the bad guy for not saying something sooner. Here’s his story.
They had a baby
The man was with his ex for over four years, during which they had a baby boy. “I was so happy to be a dad,” said the man. “So excited to give my child everything I didn’t have.”
He looked different
But he soon became suspicious that the boy wasn’t his. “My ex and I are both pale Korean,” said the man. “So when my son was born with darker skin, I had some doubts.”
It was impossible to ignore
The man tried to convince himself that he was wrong. But as the boy grew up, it became more and more obvious that he wasn’t the real dad.
He accepted the truth
“Within the first year of his life, I knew that my son wasn’t mine,” said the devastated man. And it wasn’t just the boy’s dark skin. His hair and facial features looked nothing like his so-called dad’s.
The man decided to be the dad
So the man made a choice. He promised to keep his feelings to himself and raise the boy as his own. “I already grew an attachment to him, and vice versa,” shared the man.

He never told his ex that he’d figured out the truth. And when his family said anything about the boy’s looks, he’d tell them, “He’s my boy.”
They broke up
After the pair broke up, the man kept his promise. He didn’t abandon his son. Instead, he co-parented with his ex. “He’s 15 now and lives with me 75% of the time and with his mom the other 25%,” he explained.
He wanted a haircut
“Last week, I took my son to get his haircut as he didn’t want to grow out his afro anymore,” said the man. The boy then went back to his mother. A few hours later, the man received a call.
She wanted a big chat
“I got a call from my ex telling me she needed to speak with me and that it was serious,” said the man. They agreed to meet up.
She confessed
“She sits me down very dramatically and proceeds to tell me that my son isn’t my son and that he’s her old coworker’s son,” he said. He wasn’t surprised by the news, obviously.
It was the right time
But why now? After all this time? She said her son “was in a very vital stage where he needs to learn about himself and his biological dad’s culture.”
He already knew
He stopped her and said he wasn’t stupid, telling her he already knew he wasn’t the ‘real’ dad. She was shocked and confused.
She lost her temper
Then she got mad. She chewed him out for not saying anything sooner, then drove home and told her son everything.
The son was hurt
The son was hurt and felt betrayed. But he soon realized that the man he’d always considered his dad loved and cared for him. “I told him that I had known and just loved him from the beginning,” explained the man.
He was curious
The son said he wanted to meet his biological dad. The man agreed and helped set it up. Sadly, the real dad wasn’t interested.
It messed him up
Now the man’s adopted son is devastated and trying to come to terms with an identity crisis. And his ex is blaming him for the entire situation.

Now the man is wondering if he did the right thing. Should he have said something sooner? “Maybe if I did, my son wouldn’t be going through this now. Am I the jerk?”
