A man shared how he was recently confronted by his neighbors for trapping a car in a driveway overnight by parking his own vehicle in front of it. While he went on to apologize, the man was confused, as it was his property.
He owns a motorbike
The man mainly rides a motorcycle to travel, but on days with really bad weather, or for trips to get his groceries, he uses his car.
Someone was in his drive
Recently, when the man returned from doing his shopping in the car, he found that somebody had parked in his driveway, but this was “really not that big a deal” to him. He ended up parking behind the car and brought his belongings into his house, watched a hockey game, and then went to visit a friend.
He left on his bike
When the man went to his friend’s house, he “completely spaced” and went on his motorcycle. He did not return until around midday the following day.
He had trapped somebody
“When I checked my mail, I saw notes in my mailbox and on my car,” he said. “I had trapped some poor guy in my driveway. I honestly felt bad about it. I moved my car onto the street.”
His neighbor had an issue
Eventually, the man’s neighbor yelled at him for trapping her daughter’s boyfriend’s car in his driveway. The man apologized profusely, but also noted that he had been home for four hours before departing, so they could have asked him at any point then to move.
They didn’t want to bother him
His neighbor replied by explaining that she had seen the man come home, but until it was time for her daughter’s boyfriend to leave, she didn’t want to bother him. When she came to his house that night, he was not there, and they didn’t have his number.
He feels conflicted
The man apologized yet again but has since felt “kind of stupid” for doing so, as they had parked on his property and then chose to wait for several hours before bringing it up.
It was accidental
The man thinks that, while it was wrong to trap the car, it was a complete accident.
Was he right?
The man feels that his neighbors are in the wrong for their actions, as they did not ask him to move his car when they saw him get home.
The internet responded
One person noted, “You need to stop being a pushover. Why would you ever be in the wrong for parking on your own property?”
Another commenter said, “They parked in your driveway and then waited until it was convenient for them to ask you to move.”
