His buddy needed a favor
“In 2019, my friend asked if I would keep his fridge freezer in my house,” said the man. It was a massive double American fridge freezer.
He said yes
The man agreed to do his buddy a favor but was still slightly annoyed. The fridge took up loads of space. He presumed it would be a short-term thing.
He kept letting him down
The weeks turned into months, and the fridge was still in his house. His friend promised to pick up the fridge but always let the guy down. “He gets in touch to say he was too busy and I need to relax; it’s just a fridge, and I have a big house,” said the man.
He forgot about it
The man was angry at his friend’s selfish behavior but decided an argument wasn’t worth the stress or energy. “I was annoyed but moved on and just forgot about it,” he said.
It was years later
Four years later, the man was still fridge-sitting for his buddy. But then, he sold his house, so the fridge had to go.
The buddy wanted him to deliver it
He explained the situation to his buddy, telling him to collect his fridge ASAP. He couldn’t believe what his friend said next. “He says, ‘Listen. I’ve got a better idea. On the day of the move, just drop it off at mine. You’ll have the van anyway. Cheers!'” said the man. His buddy wanted him to deliver it for free.
He refused
He was already annoyed with his friend; there was no way he would do him another favor. Plus, it was a completely unreasonable request. “He lives 7 miles away and 12 miles from my new house!” said the man.
It sat on the curb
“The next few messages weren’t too nice, and I ended up saying, ‘I’m leaving the fridge on the curb on the 25th at 9 am. Come and collect it before someone tries to take it,'” explained the man. But his friend never did. Instead, the fridge just sat on the curb.
It went on sale
Eventually, he had to bring it back inside. He was furious at his friend. Then he decided to teach him a lesson. He advertised the fridge for sale online. It sold in less than a few hours and for less than $100.
His friend contacted him
The man was settled into his new place when his buddy sent him a text message. It said, “I need you to drop the fridge off. Need it ASAP.”
He dropped the bombshell
That’s when he told his buddy about the sale. “I messaged back and said, ‘It’s gone. Don’t have it anymore. I moved house and gave you plenty of chances. Not my problem,'” said the man.
It cost over $1000
His friend went crazy. He bombarded the man with messages, calling him horrible names and saying the fridge had cost over $1000.
He offered a compromise
But the man said he didn’t care. His friend had created this mess himself. When his friend calmed down, he offered the man a deal: “Pay me $500, and we’ll call it quits.”
It got serious
He refused. He wasn’t giving the former fridge owner a single penny. That’s when things started to get really serious. “I need a new fridge, and that will cover the cost,” said the friend. “Otherwise, I’m taking you to court. Your decision. What would you prefer?”
He didn’t reply
The man hasn’t replied yet. He’s still figuring out what to do next and who is in the wrong here. “Am I the jerk here? Should I pay up to resolve this?” he asked.

“Not the jerk,” said this person. “Let him take you to small claims court. Storage space alone would have cost more; he will owe you money.”
“I agree,” posted another supporter. “Check the laws about abandoned property. Four years of refusing to pick it up is a lot of time. Meanwhile, he owes you four years’ worth of storage fees.”
