A man has recently asked if he was in the wrong for something that happened on a flight he was on. He reclined his seat, which the man behind him had a problem with. The man refused to move, however, as that wasn’t his problem. Here is what he had to say.
He flies a lot
The man flies around 150,000 miles per year with a pretty frequent routine. As he is a big man, over six feet tall and weighing 350 pounds, he paid for a first-class ticket.
He reclined his seat
After reaching a certain altitude, the man made sure to check behind him in order to ensure that the person behind him didn’t have a laptop out or anything else. From there, he decided to recline his seat.
This usually isn’t an issue
The man was sitting near the front of the plane, and as he often flies, he knows that there are very rarely any issues with reclining his seat.
Someone had an issue
The flight was, in total, about four-and-a-half hours in length, flying across the country that he lives in. Within seconds of reclining his seat, the man was tapped on the shoulder by the person behind him, who told him to raise the seat.
He did as he was asked
Although the man was “genuinely surprised,” he appeased the request and moved his seat up. Soon after, however, he called over the flight attendant and informed her that he planned to recline his seat again after meal service.
This shouldn’t have been a problem
The man also asked the attendant to inform the man behind him that he would be doing this. Due to it being the man’s prerogative, she told him not to worry about doing that.
The stranger once again took action
As he planned on doing, the man reclined his seat again after the meal service on the flight. Once more, the stranger tapped him on the shoulder, noting that he had already asked him to move his seat.
He snapped back
In response to the stranger’s words, the man told him that he was “welcome to talk to the flight attendant about it.” He did this, calling over the attendant, who reiterated the point that the man was entitled to recline.
Was he right?
There was no real argument after this happened. The stranger was a similar size to the man; however, there was “plenty of room” in the first-class section that they were flying in. As they left the plane, the man was glared at by the stranger; however, he felt that he had been quite respectful.
The internet responded
One person said, “It frankly sounds like you were more considerate than most. That guy was being more than a bit entitled.”
Another commenter noted, “Why would that be an issue? First-class cabins I’ve been in have heaps of space between rows, so a reclined seat wouldn’t affect the passenger behind.”
