A man with a heart condition recently asked the Reddit community if he was wrong for getting angry at his friends for slipping some pre-workout into his protein shake.
He doesn’t like telling people
The man’s heart condition is not life-threatening, but his doctor has advised him not to take any stimulants like caffeine. “I don’t really like telling people I have a “condition” and this is what caused the problem,” he said.
He works out regularly
The man regularly attends the gym with a few of his friends three to four times a week. A few weeks ago, he was feeling slightly sick, so he told his friends he was staying home to do a short workout.
His friends came over
About an hour later, he heard a ring at his door, and three of his friends were there encouraging him to go to the gym. The man told them he wasn’t going to go with them, but he appreciated them coming around, so he invited them in.
They offered him a drink
One of his friends said he would make some protein shakes before they left to go to the gym and asked if he wanted one. He said yes. “A few minutes after drinking mine, I started to feel shaky.
There is a problem
I wasn’t sure what was going on, I told my friends my chest was feeling weird, and they started to panic too,” the man said. After waiting a few more minutes, the man felt no better. His chest felt tight, and he started to panic. His friends called the ambulance.
Nobody told him
At the hospital, they asked him if he had taken any substances, including caffeine. He said no, but then his friend piped up and said, “I put some pre-workout in his protein shake to try and lift him up a bit and make him come to the gym with us. ”
The man was upset with them
The man was angry. “I felt betrayed that he would do this behind my back without telling me,” he said. Then he told his friends about his heart condition. His friends were sorry but said he should have told them about his heart condition. How were they to know he shouldn’t take pre-workout?
He’s still a bit angry
The man didn’t experience severe complications from taking the pre-workout, and the doctor said he was okay, but he was still angry at his friend. “I’ve received a few hurtful comments calling me a baby for ‘crying’ about it,” the man said.
Was it his own fault?
He, therefore, reached out to the Reddit community and asked for their opinion. Is it his fault for not telling them beforehand? Did he overreact
People responded
One user said, “I’m honestly confused as to why anyone would give pre-workout to someone feeling sick without telling them.”
Another user said, “That’s why you don’t add things to people’s drink/food without them knowing. If you offer it to someone, they can either decline or ask what’s in it, then make the decision for themselves if it’s safe.”
