An ex-senior Trump official went on record denouncing the Republican and his actions. The anonymous official called the former president a “traitor” and “a clear and present danger” to the U.S.
ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl’s new book, Tired of Winning, revealed the former Trump ally’s criticism of the ex-president. According to Karl, the official served “at a very high level inside the West Wing, very close to Donald Trump” and has not spoken out publicly against him.
Morally bankrupt Trump
The scathing criticism of Trump included a critique of his character. The former official said of Trump: “He lacks any shred of human decency, humility or caring. He is morally bankrupt, breathtakingly dishonest, lethally incompetent, and stunningly ignorant of virtually anything related to governing, history, geography, human events or world affairs. He is a traitor and a malignancy in our nation and represents a clear and present danger to our democracy and the rule of law.”
Karl stated that the speaker’s quote “gets to a fundamental truth about Donald Trump, and that is the most piercing and searing criticism of him.” He went on to say that: “The people that are sounding the alarm loudest about what a second Trump term would mean are those who are closest to him.”
Fear of retribution
According to Karl, the anonymous official has chosen to withhold his identity from the public out of fear of Trump’s potential “retribution.” The ex-ally states that he is worried going public may endanger himself and his family. The former official is one of several figures close to Trump who have now spoken out against the politician.
No second term for Trump
Karl spoke of his intentions behind writing the book on The View. “I think Trump is a lot more volatile than people realize,” he shared. “One of the reasons I wrote this book is that there has been very little attention paid to what the guy is actually talking about now. It’s starting to change in the last week or two, but what he stands for and what a second Trump term would look like.”
Several commenters were not so impressed by the former official’s untimely criticism of Trump. One person said: “You know when the best time to speak up would have been, don’t you, sport? All these Trump enablers act like they wouldn’t be right there with him if he’d stayed in power in 2021.”
Don’t vote for Trump
Some conservatives took the opportunity to denounce Trump and encourage Republicans to vote against him. One Redditor said: “As a life-long conservative voter I am utterly gobsmacked that this is the Republican front runner. I’d encourage other conservatives to join me in publicly declaring in your various circles that not only will you not vote for Trump, but you will not vote for any election deniers.”
Traitor and a clown
More commenters condemned the ex-official for not speaking out against Trump earlier. One Reddit user said: “Always an ex-senior official, advisor, congressman, or whatever else. This clown happily towed the line during his Presidency and beyond. Therefore, he is also a traitor. They all are.”
No one listens
Others expressed their frustration at people failing to learn from former allies criticizing Trump. One person wrote: “I have lost count in the number of people who worked for him directly and has said this. Yet people do not listen. The fact that no one has said this about a president of the last 50 years at least yet scores for Trump should mean something.”
Question for Trump supporters
One person had one simple question for Trump supporters: “For those of you who support Trump, can you explain why EVERYONE eventually turns on him?”
Acts of genocide
More people condemned the ex-official for failing to act sooner. One commenter said: “And yet you stood there, doing nothing, saying Nothing while he committed acts of genocide, mass murder, treason and insurrection.”
Take action now
Another person called for the anonymous speaker to publicly stand by his criticism of Trump: “The person quoted NEEDS TO STAND UP AND OWN that statement right now. This is not the time to stand back and not take action.”
We already knew
Others said that the former Trump ally was not saying anything the public didn’t already know. One person commented: “About time someone said out loud what 70% of us already know.”
Listen to Trump
A few people pointed out that Trump’s words and actions speak for themselves. One commenter said: “Listen to him. Listen to Trump himself! He is already telling us who he is, and what he plans to do. Believe him! (Thanks for the insight Maya!).”
No room to complain
Several commenters said that anyone refusing to put a name to their statement should not be taken seriously. One Redditor wrote: “Sorry, people who refuse to go on the record and instead remain anonymous have no real standing to complain.”
