Her Ex Mother-In-Law Kept Sharing Photos of Her Kids Online, But Then She Found a Way To Make Her Stop

A woman recently posted on Reddit that her ex-mother-in-law was sharing photos of her children with all her friends on Facebook, and she wanted it to stop. She then came up with a ‘petty’ plan to discourage the MIL from sharing the photos.

Here’s what happened.

The woman and her ex-husband had split up two years earlier, and she wasn’t in contact with many of his family members. The husband cheated on the woman, so her relationship with the in-laws was quite strained. She had removed most of them from social media except for the mother-in-law.

As it happens, the woman understood that the mother-in-law wanted to see photos of the kids, so she remained friends online. She also said: There are other reasons I still have his mother as a friend, but I don’t want to go into them as it’s a little too much detail.”

The woman began noticing that the MIL was sharing photos of her grandchildren on social media. These were photos the woman had taken, and the MIL was reposting them on her own feed. As the MIL had over 1000 friends, the woman grew uncomfortable with her sharing images of the children. She asked the ex-MIL to stop, but she refused.

So the woman came up with a plan to only share photos of the kids with HER in the photos. This meant that whenever the MIL would share pictures of the children, she would be sharing photos of her ex-daughter-in-law too, something the woman knew the MIL would not want to do.

This way, the ex-MIL gets to see photos of the grandkids but would not be able to share them without featuring their mother.

The woman said: “It really is petty. My friends tell me so. But it’s feels good. She can’t exactly say that she doesn’t get to see photos of the kids.”

The woman received some negative responses online, with people accusing her of using the kids as pawns.

However, some users were very supportive of the woman and even gave her advice:

“Remember to always be in the middle of your kid’s photos, not on the edge. You know, to make removing or cropping you out next to impossible.”

Another reader said: Always be side by side, face to face, like cheek to cheek with your kids “for the camera.”

Some users couldn’t understand why the woman didn’t just delete the ex-MIL as a friend on Facebook, to which she responded: “There is a reason, but I don’t want to go into it. I’d rather not put more pieces together if she or the ex happen to come across this and figure out who I am. She will be deleted asap.”

What do you think? Is the woman ‘petty’ for only sharing images with herself? Or does she have the right to restrict the number of photos her ex-MIL shares of her children on social media?
