7 Gut Instincts You Can’t Ignore

Have you ever had a feeling in your gut that something wasn’t quite right but couldn’t quite put your finger on why? In this article, we’ll explore four gut instincts that you should never ignore, so you can make informed decisions and stay safe in a sometimes unpredictable world.

#1 Something Bad Is About To Happen

If you get the feeling that something bad is about to happen, trust it—even if logic says otherwise. Don’t let others talk you out of this gut feeling, either. Your brain processes millions of pieces of information every hour, even if you don’t notice. That information may keep you out of a dangerous situation or from making the wrong choice.

study published in the National Library of Medicine discovered that gut instincts are often associated with subconscious processes that happen within your brain. These processes help your brain take in important information that you may not have noticed because you were distracted by something else.

Even if you don’t understand why you decided to slow down at a green light and narrowly missed being hit by a speeding car running a red light, your brain may have noticed certain cues that an accident was about to happen.

#2 Someone Desperately Needs Your Help

Sometimes you may have the feeling that somebody needs you. For example, if you start thinking about someone you haven’t spoken to in years and can’t get them off of your mind, it may be a sign that you should check in on them.

While it’s hard to explain why we get this kind of gut feeling, you’ll unlikely regret reaching out to see if someone needs your help. At the very least, you will have helped turn their negative day into a positive one. And in some cases, your intuition may help you save someone’s life or keep them from doing something dangerous.

#3 There’s Something Off About Someone You Just Met

Don’t ignore your gut if it’s telling you that you shouldn’t be quite sure about the person you’ve just met, even if they’ve been courteous and kind. Your brain has the innate ability to pick up on other people’s energy levels and intentions.

This is also true even when others who know the person claim they are a good person. While they may have had good experiences with the person, it might not work out as well for you. Your instincts are there to help protect you, and ignoring this critical gut feeling may lead to something bad.

#4 You’re Sick, Injured, or Feeling Unhealthy

In our current ‘hustle’ culture, we’re trained to keep pressing on even when things get uncomfortable. While that’s an excellent tactic for overcoming fears and pushing boundaries, it’s not so helpful when it comes to listening to our bodies.

While taking medication may help you feel better, it won’t always cure the root cause of your symptoms. If you have an upset stomach, a nagging pain in your chest, or you are feeling fatigued, always take the time to slow down and try to find what is causing it. Similarly, don’t be afraid to keep pushing to find answers when you seek medical help for your health issues.

#5 You Need a Big Change

Sometimes, our gut instincts signal that it’s time for a change, whether it’s in our personal or professional lives. Trust these feelings, as they may indicate that the current situation is no longer serving you or that there’s an opportunity for growth and transformation.

#6 You Feel Inspired

Inspiration can strike suddenly, and it’s important to embrace these flashes of creativity. Your gut may be directing you towards a unique solution or new opportunity. Pay attention to these moments, as they can lead to breakthroughs or innovative ideas.

#7 You Feel an Unexplained Connection

When you feel a strong, unexplained connection to someone, it’s important to acknowledge and explore it. These connections may lead to significant relationships, partnerships, or collaborations. Trusting your gut in these instances can open the door to valuable experiences and connections.
