The opening credits of a TV show should set the tone and get us in the mood to watch. An internet survey recently asked, “What is the most un-skippable intro in TV show history?” We compiled the top 24 suggestions.

Duck Tales

“The Skip Intro button shouldn’t be there. A friend confirmed her son watches every time as well. He is ten. I will be forty in a month, and it still makes me dance every time.”

“I have two girls; my wife and I love watching with them; we even listen to the theme song in the car! It’s a banger!”

“Yes! It’s so catchy. They might solve a mystery or rewrite history… DuckTales!”

Star Trek

“These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise….its continuing mission, to seek out strange new worlds, new life, and new civilizations….”

“Oh, I never skip a Star Trek intro. Who would do that?”

“My roommate told me to picture Patrick Stewart doing a pole dance striptease to the intro music. So now that’s what I see anytime I hear the theme.”

The Simpsons

“You have to see the chalkboard and the original couch gag.”

“I used to joke that the “Skip intro” option on Disney+ for the Simpsons should just automatically cancel your account.”

“In addition, the theme song is usually pretty short after season 2. It almost feels silly to bother skipping it.”

Golden Girls

“I am unclear why this is not ranked higher! I love singing that song!”

“Recently, during a GG marathon, I recently thought of skipping the intro (after three seasons). But it felt wrong, and I went back to the beginning and sang my heart out. And that was the one and only time I ever tried to skip it.”

X-Files

“I can’t believe I had to scroll so far to find this; I loved the 5-minute or so preface of the story and then into the intro theme. It was just great.”

“I was legitimately TERRIFIED of this intro as a kid. I’d have to run out of the room if my parents were watching the beginning.”

“This is definitely the best. It’s instantly recognizable and endlessly fascinating.”

Futurama

“Yes, because I always need to see the new tagline.”

“Same with the shop sign and van in the Bob’s Burgers intro. One time, the van that hit the telephone pole was Dale’s van from King of the Hill, and I almost lost my mind.”

“That was the first show on my mind. I love how both Simpsons and Futurama keep their intros interesting episode after episode.”

Pokemon

Batman: The Animated Series

“Terribly underappreciated piece of music. Extremely rich and instrumentally technical. And yet, totally atmospheric. An extremely smart way to end an opening theme as well.”

“Agree! That whole series is Batman at its peak. Every episode is a 20-minute movie.”

“Interestingly, the word Batman never appears. It’s so iconic/universal you know exactly what it is from the first musical note, the bat symbol, and the caped crusader himself.”

“It’s stuck in my head now, just thinking about it.”

Narcos

“This should be at the top. That song is a BANGER.”

“I always listened to the intro when watching because I thought it was so good.”

The Addams Family

“Yes! With Lurch at the harpsichord and the cast snapping their fingers in time to the music with memorable lyrics.”

“During warm-ups, when I was working haunting, we had to hum the song and snap our fingers, in full costume and make-up, etc. People started showing up at 5 pm, and we didn’t fully open until 7 pm. Some people didn’t need to stay after that!”

Breaking Bad

“It’s only 5 seconds long, but it always makes me turn the nearest object into bongos.

“Agreed! Both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul really set the mood.”

“I just finished watching it, and let me tell you, I didn’t skip that intro once.”

“I always wanted to see a marching band try to do that theme as part of their show and somehow keep their drummers from going completely nuts.”

“I love all the conspiracy-themed easter eggs.”

“I cannot bring myself to skip that song and dance!!

“This is the correct answer. It’s by far the best opening intro. It’s corny but awesome.”

“They nailed it! Just the deadpan expressions they all have while dancing, having the whole cast, even the neighbor and the janitor… Just perfection!”
